Italy is an important partner in commercial relations with Canada, so much so that for the products that concern the sectors represented by the HostMilano event, an exchange value of over 113 million euros was recorded, almost entirely referring to flows from Italy towards Canada, where bakery and coffee machines take first place in terms of sales. This result is confirmed by the platform’s data Export Planning reported by HostMilan and who announce how this value could grow up to 179 million euros in 2025, with an average annual change rate (CAGR) of +12.1%.

Specifically, the most important sector in terms of value of Italian exports on the Canadian market is that of Professional Catering, with almost 53 million euros realized last year and a forecast of almost 97 million euros by 2025 (CAGR: +16.4%). It must be said that exports to Canada represent 1.3% of total Italian exports in the sector, while Italy’s market share is 1.9% in relation to a scenario dominated by US competitors (37.5 % of the market) and Chinese (34.6%). Among the most interesting segments of Made in Italy exports we find refrigeration equipment (11.8 million euros in 2021, with strong growth for 2025 with a CAGR of +45.4%); sales in the electric cookers, hobs and ovens segment also did well (at 16.8 million euros in 2021).

Focus on good performance: from bread making to coffee machines

From the privileged observatory of HostMilan let’s discover the segments of the hospitality world that contribute to making Italy, in Canada, a top-level commercial partner in terms of offering high-performance products and after-sales assistance. Here are the sectors of excellence:

There Bakery-Pastry (23.9 million euros of Italian exports in 2021, which are expected to reach 28.7 million in 2025, CAGR +4.7%), see Italy at first place overall among the commercial partners of the Canadian market with a share of 25.5% in 2021, a record also confirmed in the forecast scenario, with a share for 2025 expected at 24%. Bakery machines are by far the most relevant segment, with 22.2 million euros exported in 2021 (expected to rise to almost 27 million euros in 2025). Canada instead covers 2.9% of Italian export destinations.

The sector Coffee machines – Vending machines exported from Italy to Canada 18.3 million euros in 2021, expected to grow to almost 29 million euros in 2025, with a CAGR of +12%. This corresponds to a market share of 12.2%, in second place in the ranking of partner countries behind the USA, first with a share of 63.4%.

Most of the flows are represented by exports of coffee machines and other professional cooking equipment (15.5 million euros in 2021, with forecasts of an increase up to over 25 million in the 2025 scenario, corresponding to a CAGR of +13.2%). In this case, Canada represents 1.4% of the sector’s total Italian exports.

L’Table furniture (18 million euros in 2021 and growth forecasts to 24 million in 2025), with a share of 0.8% of the total imported from Canada, represents a sector that has to deal with competition from products from China (covering 52% of the market) and the United States (24.5%). Home textiles and glassware and tableware (both with 10 million euros of Italian exports expected in 2025) are the most relevant product segments; cutlery and cutlery the one with the most favorable growth dynamics expected in 2025 (CAGR +11.4%).
