The idyll was (very) short-lived. Eighteen precise days elapsed between the first Meloni-Macron meeting in Rome, on 23 October, and the first diplomatic crisis between the two countries, on 10 November, a consequence of the Italian refusal to grant authorization for the disembarkation of the 234 migrants on board the Ocean Viking. The boat of the NGO Sos Méditerranée ended up in the port of Toulon, France, arousing the wrath of the French government.
