New alert from the Civil ProtectionThe Poppea cyclone it is now close to hitting Italy; for this reason the national civil protection has issued a serious weather alert, even RED for some regions.

For Tuesday, a deep low depression will affect Italy, bringing conditions of severe bad weather to a large part of the country, in particular to the central-southern and north-eastern regions, with widespread rainfall, even very abundant and a marked reinforcement of ventilation. resulting in strong storm surges on the exposed coasts.

Based on the forecasts available, the Department of Civil protection in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for the activation of civil protection systems in the territories concerned – issued a further severe weather warning, which follows and extends the one released yesterday. The weather phenomena, impacting the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department website (

From the early hours of Tuesday 22 November the bad weather will extend to Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Basilicata and Calabria. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, electrical activity and strong gusts of wind. From the early hours of tomorrow, snowfalls are also expected in the alpine sectors of Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, on average above 800-1000 meters and local trespassing up to 500-700 m, with contributions to the ground from moderate to abundant . Furthermore, from today’s evening stormy to strong stormy winds are expected from the western quadrants over Sardinia, extending from the early hours of tomorrow to Liguria, Tuscany, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily, with storm gusts on the major islands and on the southern regions. From the early hours of tomorrow, stormy or strong storm winds are expected from the southern quadrants over Puglia, Molise and Marche, and from the northern quadrants over Friuli Venezia Giulia, extending to Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. Strong storm surges on all exposed coasts.

On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, it was assessed for tomorrow, Tuesday 22 November, red alert on sectors of Abruzzo and Sardinia. Orange alert on part of Abruzzo, Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Sardinia, Molise, Basilicata, Campania and Veneto. Yellow alert on sectors of Abruzzo, Calabria, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Marche, Molise, Sardinia, Umbria, Veneto, Basilicata, Puglia and Sicily

The meteorological picture and criticalities forecast for Italy is updated daily on the basis of new forecasts and the evolution of phenomena, and is available on the website of the Civil Protection Department (, together with the general rules of behavior to be followed in case of bad weather. Information on regional alert levels, on specific criticalities that could affect individual territories and on the preventive actions taken are managed by the territorial civil protection structures, in contact with which the Department will follow the evolution of the situation.
