Train strike in the UK

United Kingdom at risk of paralysis at Christmas. Over 40,000 railway workers go on strike on 13 and 14 December. The protest will continue in January on the following days: 3 and 4, then 6 and 7, finally 16 and 17. The mobilization was called by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union. It is a protest in which workers’ representatives are demanding an increase in wages, in line with the skyrocketing rate of inflation.

“I’m not the Grinch, but a union official determined to get a deal.” “This round of strikes will show how important our workers are to the management of this country. It will send a clear message: we want a good deal on safety, pay and working conditions,” the general secretary of the Rmt explained to journalists Mick Lynch.

At the moment talks with the railway companies and with Network Rail, the manager of the railway infrastructure, are at a standstill after a solution has not been found for months. In fact, the union Rmt he had suspended the strikes scheduled for early November to facilitate negotiations, but the agreement has faded. Some progress has been made since then and the negotiations could bring satisfactory results.
