(ANSA) – ROME, NOVEMBER 19 – A woman was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after police discovered she was hiding $450,000 worth of cocaine in the wheels of her wheelchair. CNN reports it online.
The woman had arrived in New York on a flight from the Dominican Republic on November 10, according to US customs. Officers noticed the wheelchair’s wheels weren’t turning and X-rayed it. They then discovered a white powder, later found to be cocaine, in all four wheels, a statement said. This was a total of 28 pounds of cocaine (12 kilos) with an estimated market value of approximately $450,000. The woman was arrested for importing illegal substances and handed over to the Department of Internal Security.
He is now facing federal drug smuggling charges. (HANDLE).
