Australia scared France with a great start to the World Cup: in the long run, however, the great quality of the reigning world champions emerged, winning 4-1. David Zdrilic, coach Blessin’s deputy at Genoa, commented on his team’s defeat Socceroos which he represented in the past by scoring 20 goals in 30 games from 1997 to 2005, winning the Oceanian Cup twice: «Bitter result despite a great start – explains Zdrilic – but France never panicked and showed their class by working calmly to get back into the game. The deeper we fell, the harder the task became».
